Training workshop in Cabo Verde: the use of SSF Guidelines in the context of CFI West Africa project

16/07/2019 - 19/07/2019

On 16-19 July 2019, a training workshop for FAO national staff and newly recruited consultants in addition to representatives from national, regional and local administrations for the FAO-GEF Coastal Fisheries Initiative West Africa (CFI-WA) project in Cabo Verde, Cote d'Ivoire and Senegal was held in Mindelo, San Vincente – Cabo Verde. The training, which was held in French, included sessions on gender and value-chain analysis, the ecosystem approach to fisheries (EAF), the CFI Fisheries Performance Assessment Tool (FPAT), communications, M&E and the SSF Guidelines. The approximately half a day session on the SSF Guidelines allowed participants to become familiar with, and improve their understanding of how to use the SSF Guidelines in the context of the project. The CFI-WA project aims to strengthen coastal fisheries governance, management and value chains and a key stakeholder group is small-scale fishers, fish workers – in particular women in the postharvest sector – and their communities.
