Latin America and the Caribbean creates the world's first model law on small-scale fisheries

Latin American and Caribbean Parliament passed a law that provides guidelines and recommendations to countries in the region to strengthen small-scale fishing.

The model law is a legal framework reference that countries can use as a basis to develop their national policies and laws, to support millions of people who depend on artisanal fisheries as their main livelihood.

June 21, 2017, Santiago, Chile - The Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO) has created the world’s first model law on small-scale fisheries, which will serve as an example for countries to strengthen this key sector for food and nutrition security.

The model law is a legal framework reference that countries can use as a basis to develop their national policies and laws, to support millions of people who depend on artisanal fisheries as their main livelihood.
