Study on small-scale fisheries commitment to implement SDG 14

07/02/2019

A large study on small-scale fisheries is currently being undertaken by FAO in partnership with WorldFish and Duke University. The study goes under the name Illuminating Hidden Harvests Project and compiles information and data on small-scale fisheries from around the world.

The results, planned to be published in 2020, aim to contribute to effective decision-making on small-scale fisheries by policymakers, and to make a strong case for fishing communities advocating for support to the sector.

Just recently, the undertaking of this study was submitted as a commitment towards fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goal 14: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development. It now joins hands with 1,500 voluntary commitments to save our oceans, all registered on a UN platform.
