WASAG – The Global Framework on Water Scarcity in Agriculture

Translating the Praia Commitments into actions

The 17 Praia Commitments from the First WASAG International Forum on Water Scarcity in Agriculture held in Praia, Cabo Verde, from 19 to 22 March 2019, are being translated into action. These commitments are a synthesis of the recommendations formulated during the different sessions of the forum, led by the WASAG working groups. They were endorsed by the participants on the last day, in the presence of the President of the National Assembly of Cabo Verde, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Cabo Verde and the FAO Deputy Director General, Natural Resources and Climate. Following the Rome Statement adopted during the first partners’ meeting of 19-20 April 2017, the Praia Commitments constitute a major milestone and a key document for WASAG.

Each WASAG working group is the custodian of at least one of them, as reflected in the table. WASAG is now developing a work plan which includes milestones, activities, indicators and means of verification for each commitment. Partners are invited to be actively involved in this new phase of WASAG ‘s life, starting from the WASAG Partner’s meeting that took place on Wednesday 28 August 2019 from 13:30 to 15:30 during the World Water Week in Stockholm.
