"Food Security and Conflict", presented by Professor Tilman Brück, Founder and Director of the International Security and Development Center (ISDC).

It is now well established that exposure of countries to external or internal conflict leads to a deterioration in their food security. Conflict disrupts food production, destroys farm assets and rural infrastructure, and discourages crop and livestock farming.

This seminar examines the multiple linkages between food security and conflict based on country level case studies. Evidence shows that the nature of the conflict and the national institutional setup, jointly determine the impact of conflict on food security.

Also, evidence suggests that strengthening food security leads to a strengthening of peace. These insights carry strong implications for the design of effective food security policies that address the challenges caused by conflict and contribute to peacebuilding.
