The Kubuqi Desert ecosystem restoration model is a unique approach which has developed proven solutions to desertification and land degradation in a country specific context. Over the past 29 years, immense efforts have been invested into combating desertification in the Kubuqi Desert of Inner Magnolia. To date, more than 6,000 km2 have been restored from desertification. The success in Kubuqi could become a potential model for the global community with regard to land rehabilitation in drylands, while at the same time addressing the likely future impacts of climate change.
