The misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in the agriculture sector significantly increases the likelihood of the emergence and spread of resistant bacteria. Reducing the need for antimicrobial use is crucial for sustainable livestock management and transformation. On 25 April 2024, the International Symposium on Pathways to Reduce the Need for Antimicrobials on Farms for Sustainable Agrifood Systems Transformation (RENOFARM) was jointly organized by the FAO and the Government of Rongchang District, China. This event marked international consensus on the FAO initiative "Reduce the Need for Antimicrobials on Farms for Sustainable Agrifood Systems Transformation" (RENOFARM). The symposium brought together 300 academic, public, and private sector leaders and decision-makers from 35 countries, highlighting the importance of RENOFARM in transforming the management of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and antimicrobial use through international dialogue and action. The symposium proposed farm-level support guided by the "5 Goods" (Good Health Services, Good Production Practices, Good Alternatives, Good Incentives, and Good Connection) to foster ground-level behavioral change on AMR and antimicrobial use. In this webinar, expert speakers and panelists will share insights and experiences in order to explore how to translate the outcomes of the RENOFARM launch into practical implementation through Animal Health Innovations, Reference Centres, and Vaccines.
