IEA Bioenergy is an organization set up in 1978 by the International Energy Agency (IEA) with the aim of improving cooperation and information exchange between countries that have national programmes in bioenergy research, development and deployment. It is one of the Technology Collaboration Programmes, which are independent bodies operating in a framework provided by the IEA.

IEA Bioenergy provides an umbrella organization and structure for a collective effort where national experts from research, government and industry work together with experts from other member countries. Currently, IEA Bioenergy has 25 member countries plus the European Commission. The work of IEA Bioenergy is structured in Tasks with specific objectives, budgets, and time frames.

The ongoing tasks include Biomass Combustion; Gasification of Biomass and Waste; Direct Thermochemical Liquefaction; Material and Energy valorisation of waste in a Circular Economy; Energy from Biogas; Commercialising Conventional and Advanced Transport Biofuels from Biomass and Other Renewable Feedstocks; Deployment of biobased value chains; Biorefining in a Circular Economy; Sustainable biomass supply integration for bioenergy within the broader bioeconomy; Flexible Bioenergy and System Integration; Climate and Sustainability Effects of Bioenergy within the broader Bioeconomy.
