management and increase the environmental and economic benefits for targeted rural communities in Zambia's Eastern Province.

The project aims at addressing the main drivers of deforestation in Zambia's Eastern Province - agricultural expansion and fuelwood harvesting for charcoal or firewood. The project elements relevant to wood energy include: 1) 10,000 ha forest plantations; 2) 1,500 ha community woodlots; 3) Avoid deforestation of 24,170 ha through introducing climate‐smart agriculture and sustainable forest management practices, 4) Avoid deforestation of 814 ha through dissemination of improved cookstoves.
