Kenya National Strategy for Achieving and Maintaining over 10% Tree Cover by 2022

The Strategy aims to deliver the following objectives: (i) produce 1.8 billion quality tree seedlings by 2022 needed to increase tree cover to 10%, (ii) implement national policies, legislations and rules that require increased tree planting by 2022, (iii) strenghthen institutional capacity of Kenya Forest Service to implement its mandate include fire management and law enforcement and compliance strenghthened, (iv) enhance conservation and protection of natural forests on public, community and private lands and rehabilitation of degraded areas, (v) adopt use of alternative energy sources and efficient wood conversion and utilization technologies by institutions, industry and households, and (vi) establish commercial forest plantations on public, private and community lands to provide adequate and sustainable timber, poles and fuelwood for industrial and domestic consumption.
