Scaling-up Renewable Energy Program for Low-Income Countries (SREP) – Investment Plan for Zambia, 2018-2020

Under the SREP program, up to $40 million will be made available for Zambia through the World Bank to assist private sector, aiming at supporting innovative developers in the energy sector to scale up green energy programs. Relevant activities include:

- Development of a Biomass Energy Strategy and an implementation roadmap, including “clean and modern energy for cooking" solutions; improved solid biomass cookstoves, charcoal stoves…
- Adoption of labelling and enforcement mechanisms for charcoal production
- Increasing efficiency in resource harvesting and charcoal production (Promotion of alternate coupes and shelterbelt strips systems (ACOSSS) for sustainable forest wood harvesting for charcoal production · Promotion of charcoal kilns for sustainable charcoal production and associated sustainable business · Innovative financing to provide risk capital and development of business model for charcoal producers, transporter and traders)
