This background analytical study report was prepared to facilitate informed discussions at the UNFF-13 on the contribution of forests to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals under review by the high-level political forum on sustainable development in 2018.

The report consists of 6 parts: 1) Forests and Energy in the Context of SDG7- summary of the forest status and trends to achieve SDG 7 and the interaction with other key SDG goals; 2) summary of the benefits and challenges of wood-based energy; 3) linkage of SDG7 to poverty eradication and sustainable development; 4) prospects for the sustainable use of wood-based energy; 5) key policy instruments; 6) conclusions and recommendation for action.
