Woodfuel constitutes one of the 6 pillars to the implementation strategy of the forestry policy, which highlighted: a) adapt the legal framework on forest exploitation for energy purposes; b) supply of woodfuels based on forest plantations; c) adoption of an integrated forestry and energy policy favorable to the use of certified woodfuels.

In the short term, the Government should regulate the exploitation of native forest resources for the sustainable production of wood fuels to supply urban centers, promoting the emergence of organizations, associations and forums representing wood fuel producers, and increasing the efficiency of transformation and the charcoal value chain, with a view to obtaining greater gains for charcoal producers. At the consumer level, the Government must adopt measures to reduce the consumption of woodfuels and family expenses through the efficiency of the stoves used.

In the medium term, the Government must adopt measures so that the production of wood fuels to supply urban consumption is carried out through associations of charcoal producers and organized producers, registered and primarily from commercial plantations with fast-growing native and/or exotic species in peri-urban areas and in degraded or multiple-use forests.

In the long term, the Government is required to adopt an integrated energy policy aimed at promoting environmental awareness of urban consumers for the purchase of woody fuels in accordance with the legal framework and based on sustainable forest exploitation, encouraging the consumption of sources energy alternatives, the use of waste by agro-industries, as well as the adoption of regulatory fees, incentives, subsidies to other energies to reduce dependence on woody fuels in urban centers and multisectoral coordination in energy policy.
