The One Trillion Trees Initiative was launched in 2020 at the World Economic Forum as a platform for governments, businesses, and civil society to provide support to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021–2030). It aims to grow, restore and conserve 1 trillion trees around the world over 10 years by 2030 in a bid to restore biodiversity and help fight climate change.

The following initiatives operate independently but contribute to the One Trillion Tree Initiative:

-          Trillion Trees, a joint venture of three nonprofit organizations – BirdLife International, World Wildlife Fund, and Wildlife Conservation Society – aims to restore one trillion trees by 2050

-          Billion Tree Campaign, launched in 2006 by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and later handed to the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation

-          Trillion Tree Campaign, operated by the Plant-for-the-Planet Foundation

-          Plant a Billion Trees, a campaign of The Nature Conservancy

-          Bonn Challenge, aiming to bring 150 million hectares of degraded and deforested landscapes into restoration by 2020 and 350 million hectares by 2030. Launched by the Government of Germany and IUCN in 2011, the Challenge surpassed the 150-million-hectare milestone for pledges in 2017.

-          AFR100 - African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative, country-led effort to bring 100 million hectares of land in Africa into restoration by 2030, which contributes to the Bonn Challenge.
