AFR100 (the African Forest Landscape Restoration Initiative) is a country-led effort to bring 100 million hectares of land in Africa into restoration by 2030. It aims to accelerate restoration to enhance food security, increase climate change resilience and mitigation, and combat rural poverty.

The Initiative was launched in 2015 at COP21 by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), World Resources Institute (WRI), Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the World Bank. The AFR100 Secretariat is hosted at AUDA-NEPAD.

AFR100 is a partnership of more than 20 African governments and numerous technical and financial partners. It contributes to the Bonn Challenge, the African Resilient Landscapes Initiative (ARLI), the African Union Agenda 2063, the New York Declaration on Forests, and the Sustainable Development Goals.
