Children's booklet contest on salt-affected soils: RESULTS
Salty soil adventures - A collection of ten children’s stories from around the world
In the framework of World Soil Day 2021, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations , the International Union of Soil Sciences and the Global Soil Partnership launched a scientific children's booklet contest on salt-affected soils with the motto "Halt soil salinization, boost soil productivity". This is the collection of some of the best entries with a regionally balanced approach, in order to effectively reach children from all around the world, and raise awareness for the urgency of fighting salinization and sodification processes.

In the framework of WSD 2021, FAO, IUSS and GSP are launching a scientific children's booklet contest on salt-affected soils with the motto "Halt soil salinization, Boost soil productivity".
IUSS and FAO's GSP received 27 books from 14 countries for the contest, which was very successful in giving visibility to the importance of the fight against soil salinization and raising awareness on the urgency of protecting healthy soils.
Well-wishings to the winners and finalists and a heartfelt thank you to all participants!
And the winners are...
- The first prize goes to "The Beetles: a Salty Soil Journey" by Teresa Porter, Franco López Campomane, Lewis Fausak from University of British Columbia, Canada;
- The second prize goes to "Earth's Extraordinary Soil for All Living Organisms. Learning, thinking and acting!" by Marcela Bianchessi da Cunha Santino, Universidade Federal de São Carlos (UFSCar), Brazil;
- The third prize goes to "Why can't crops be grown in the fields?" by Song Zikang, China University of Geosciences, People's Republic of China.
