offered by the Government of Malta for Postgraduate Studies at the University of Malta

The Government of Malta, through the Ministry for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change, is announcing the offer of three scholarships for students wishing to engage in Postgraduate studies at the University of Malta commencing in the academic year 2016/2017. Research proposals will be considered in the following areas:

-Adaptation and Building Resilience to Climate Change

-Developing a Low Carbon Economy

-Good Governance of Climate Action

This donor scholarship scheme is in part fulfillment of Malta's obligations under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to provide support to developing States. Malta is of the conviction that one of the areas where support in climate action is mostly needed in lies in capacity-building requirements.

Through this scheme Malta is donating scholarships in Master of Science by Research on crucial climate related issues such as water management, renewable energy, marine conservation management and climate action governance. In partnership with the University of Malta which will award the Masters, academic and executive expertise will serve candidates from developing States to build an excellent knowledge base in these fields of research that will serve the beneficiaries to become leaders in filling the knowledge and expertise gaps in their own nations.

In this way Malta would be helping developing States to build national expertise in areas which will serve to address climate change whilst becoming more climate resilient.

The deadline for applications and submission of documentation to be considered for the scholarship is the 15th June 2016. Further information is available at http://foreignaffairs.gov.mt/en/Pages/Scholarships.aspx
