Coger la onda para el cambio !

08/06/2016

This World Oceans Day, incorporate the new Wave For Change at your organization. The Wave for Change is an easy-to-implement campaign that asks participants to record themselves making a commitment to the ocean, doing the wave, and sharing their wave on social media! Each person's wave will be added to a network of other people around our blue planet doing the Wave to help our shared ocean.

The focus this year is on helping to solve the problem of plastic pollution and we are excited to announce that the singer Jack Johnson (please see the video of Jack at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9JhrMNhktA) initiated the Wave on May 25 and we’re expanding on this campaign as we launch the new World Oceans Day website. The Wave will grow as you and others build on it, on a rolling basis from through World Oceans Day, June 8th, and throughout the summer.

Grow the Wave for Change by following three easy steps and challenging other leaders, your members, colleagues, and friends to participate!

1) Record a short video giving one example of a specific commitment or action that aligns with your organizational/institutional/personal interests, such as...

o (Our organization is/I am) using reusable bags instead of single use plastic bags OR:

o (Our organization/I) pledge/s to install (#) Bottle Refill Stations to encourage the use of reusable bottles OR:

o (Our organization/I) pledge/s to no longer use plastic straws

2) “Sign” your commitment by doing the Wave on video! (The "wave" is using your arms to make a wave motion flowing from one arm to the next ~ )

3) Post the video online with the tags #WaveForChange and #WorldOceansDay, along with your own institution’s identifiers. Don't forget to tag World Oceans Day on Facebook & Instagram, and @CelebrateOceans on Twitter.

Here is a sample script you might use but anything in any language is great!

"Here at (our organization) we are taking action on the issue of plastic pollution in our ocean, and will not use single use plastic water bottles but instead use a reusable bottle. For World Oceans Day this June 8th we're asking you to join us as part of a growing Wave For Change. Share what YOU will do to reduce your use of disposable/single use plastics, sign your commitment by doing "the wave" on camera, and post it online. So now I'm passing this wave on to you, and challenging you to take it and pass it on to your friends and family. Together, we can truly make a difference for our shared ocean!”

Our, and others’, market research demonstrates that people appreciate when asked by trusted leaders to participate as part of the solution to an ocean problem, and we hope and expect the Wave for Change will help you do just that.
