Winners of the National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 are Awarded

National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 has ended. Winners of the third National Agrarian Olympiad were solemnly awarded by the First Deputy Minister of the Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Nino Tandilashvili, the Assistant Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Mamuka Meskhi and the Head of Coordination Office for Technical Cooperation of the Austrian Embassy in Georgia Alexander Karner. Partners and sponsors of the National Agrarian Olympiad awarded winners with special prizes too.

There were 870 contestants participating in the 2023 Agricultural Olympiad in total and 39 winners were revealed as a result of two step examination. Winners were awarded in four categories: Specialist, Student, Farmer, and Pupil. The Olympiad consisted of following directions: Agronomy, Veterinary, Viticulture, Food technology, Mechanization and Forestry.

The National Agrarian Olympiad is held since 2021 with patronage of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United National (FAO) is the organizer of the occasion, while the author of the concept is the Rural Development Association (ADA). The Austrian Development Cooperation and the Environmental Information and Education Centre of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia are partners of the Olympiad.

“Development of the agricultural field is a priority of our government. Thus, we strengthen the programs supporting the farmers year to year. Along development of the agricultural field it is also vitally important to attract youth to the agrarian professions. Considering this, Agrarian Olympiad serves as a platform that supports students, pupil, specialists and farmers to broaden their abilities as well as is a source of inspiration for them. All this will help to attract more youth to the agrarian professions,” – said the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Nino Tandilashvili.

The National Agrarian Olympiad was held already for the third time in Georgia. The competition aims to promote the agricultural sector and agrarian education, raise awareness among young people on different agricultural fields as well as importance of environmental protection issues. The National Agrarian Olympiad represents the only platform, in Georgia and in the whole Region, owning a qualified mechanism for professional knowledge evaluation and endorsement of informal education in agriculture. 

"The National Agricultural Olympiad plays an important role in the process of development and promotion of the educational sector of the agricultural field. We are glad that FAO is an active supporter of this process, and we intend to be actively involved in the organization of the Olympiad as well as in the process of knowledge sharing and strengthening of agrarian professions in future too. All this is crucial for further development of agricultural sector in our Country", - said the Assistant Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Mamuka Meskhi

Supporters and partners of the National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 were: United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) with project: " Safety and Quality Investment in Livestock’ in Georgia (SQIL), TBC for Business, Aldagi, Agrosphere, Baraka, Hektas, Georgian Wine Guild, Vinotel, Beko, Agromotors, Pomona and Muracha.

Awarding ceremony of the National Agrarian Olympiad 2023 was attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, International Organizations, partners and stakeholders.
