Innovation, driven by science, technology, policy, finance and institutional capacity, lies at the center of food systems transformation. To unleash countries’ potential for agricultural innovation to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, human and institutional capacities need to be strengthened.

The Tropical Agriculture Platform (TAP) is a G20 initiative established in 2012 as a multi-stakeholder facilitation mechanism on capacity development for agricultural innovation systems (AIS).

This Side Event presents the TAP approach to strengthen capacities for AIS at individual, organizational and policy levels and provides insights on current and future activities of TAP.

Regional perspectives from Africa, Asia-Pacific, Latin America and Caribbean, and Europe will be presented, with emphasis on development of functional capacities of AIS. Experiences of evidence-based policy dialogue on agricultural innovation will be shared.
