Partnering with UNFPA

The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, and its collaboration with FAO focuses on the interconnections between population dynamics, reproductive health, women and youth empowerment and sustainable development.

Recognizing the important role of these topics in sustainable agriculture, food security and rural development, the partnership between FAO and UNFPA strives for gender equality, women's empowerment, youth engagement and capacity building, as well as working to enable inclusive and efficient agrifood systems, decrease rural poverty and enhance the resilience of livelihoods.

Global Frameworks

In 2021, FAO and UNFPA agreed to capture synergies between their respective strategic frameworks and programmatic priorities, and to focus on the joint delivery of results at country level.

FAO and UNFPA have developed the Global Partnership to harness digitalization for transforming the lives of farmers and rural communities who have been left behind.

Memberships

FAO and UNFPA are both Members of the United Nations Sustainable Development Group (UNSDG), a high-level forum for joint policy formation and decision-making, which guides, supports, tracks and oversees the coordination of development operations in 162 countries and territories.
