The development of Africa is calling into play all the natural resources with which the continent has been endowed. One of the most important of these resources is the unique and varied wildlife.

The African Special Project, executed jointly by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), attempted to focus attention on the main problems inherent in the conservation and development of the wildlife capital, their solutions and possibilities for the future. The results and conclusions of the project are published in Conservation and management of African wildlife; detailed individual country reports wild appear separately.
