3. GENERAL STATEMENT OF PROCEDURE

Participants in the Workshop contributed some 35 papers concerning aquaculture projects in their respective countries, hereafter termed Contributed Papers (CPs), Annex E. In addition the SCSP furnished each participants 28 Background Papers from recent meetings and publications, termed BPs, Annex F, relevant to the Workshop. These papers were discussed in a series of 7 Panel Sessions each headed by a Chairman and a Rapporteur and involving 4 to 8 Panelists as participants. In addition to the Panel Sessions, Sectoral Meetings covering specialized topics were also held.

At the conclusion of the Workshop a summarizing session was held in which the Chairman of each Panel Session and the Group Leader of each Sectoral Meeting summarized the conclusions and recommendations of their particular meeting.

Field trips during the course of the Workshop included:

  1. a visit to SEAFDEC facilities with particular emphasis on work being done in the culture of Penaeus monodon, and Chanos chanos and various algae culture production methodologies;

  2. a visit to a private sector, Penaeus monodon hatchery and fry production center which was under construction and to an agri-aquaculture project in which a piggery operation was combined with nutrient production for rearing of Chanos chanos and Penaeus spp.;

  3. a visit to the SEAFDEC fishpond station at Leganes where major facilities are in an early stage of operation, or being completed, for extensive work in all types of brackishwater aquaculture production; and a visit to the UP Brackishwater Aquaculture Center where the major emphasis is on production of Chanos chanos.
