Annex X
STATEMENT BY DR. BRIAN F. DAVY
Associate Director (Fisheries)
International Development Research Centre, Singapore

IDRC is a Canadian donor agency providing funding for applied research in most countries of the region.

IDRC is happy to be cooperating with NACA through support for trainees at the Senior Aquaculturists Course at RLCP, MINISIS information system support for all centres and a post meeting tour of integrated fish culture in China after this Meeting. This tour is designed to assist IDRC-NACA in defining training needs in Asia specifically for integrated fish culture.

In addition, IDRC through its bilateral research support with member governments is attempting to coordinate this support directly with NACA research activities. IDRC has appreciated the assistance that NACA has provided in this regard.

In the future, IDRC is willing to consider funding member government trainees to any of the NACA courses if specific requests are received. IDRC is also discussing support for information/ communication video tape materials production through RLCP. Further information system support is also under discussion with NACA and SEAFDEC.

IDRC is continuing to receive requests for other types of training than what NACA can presently provided. As mentioned at the last ADCOM Meeting, we hope other short-term courses important to the regional needs can soon be finalized. We would also request a joint review of current methods for trainee nomination and selection with the aim of improving the caliber of trainees.

IDRC would like to congratulate NACA on its work over the last year and to assure NACA that we are very interested to increase our cooperation.
