Chironomus pulcher Wiedeman

(Chironomidae). Fresh waters. Widely distributed. Larvae cultivated on mass scale for use in feeding Tilapia, in Uganda.

Chironomus spp.

(Chironomidae). Fresh waters. Larvae cultivated in several countries as feed for fishes. In some European countries and U.S.S.R. bundles of reeds are immersed in water and pieces of meat put to decompose. Chironomids lay eggs in this and when larvae emerge they are collected.
