The just ending 2003 marketing year (January/December) domestic cereal availability is estimated at 8.97 million tonnes against total utilization requirements of about 10.5 million tonnes. Total cereal import requirement is thus estimated at 1.5 million tonnes. With commercial imports anticipated at 55 000 tonnes, food aid needs amount to 1.46 million tonnes, mostly wheat. As of end November, food aid pledges stood at 1.7 million tonnes of which 1.5 million tonnes had been delivered.
