10. ASSESSMENT OF THE VARIOUS STOCKS

Production models as well as semi-quantitative methods have been used as an attempt to evaluate the potential of demersal fish stocks in the area. Results of these are presented in Table 8. The table compares these results with those obtained by the Guinean Trawling Survey (G.T.S.). The evaluations have been done by CECAF divisions.

The annual potential of demersal fish stocks in the Cape Verde Division has been estimated between 150 000 and 200 000 metric tons. In the Sherbro Division where less catch and effort data are available, a potential of between 25 000 and 40 000 tons per annum has been arrived at.

The potentials for shrimps and soles in the Cape Verde Division are given below:

Species

Northern zone

Southern zone

Shrimps

580 tons

2 400 tons

Soles

860 tons

1 800 tons

Appendixes 9-12 of this report describe the analysis.
