SUMMARY OF THE FINDINGS OF THE ANGLOPHONE GROUP

Methodology and results

Each member of the group was asked to select one study each for the humid and dry zones respectively within each sub heading of the thematic studies after studying the study contents. Thereafter, the choices made for the zones by the members were listed. Selections were made based on the selection of those studies with the highest frequency under each sub-heading and by zone. The results by study numbers according to the sub headings were as follows:

In order to prioritise the studies within the zones, each member had to independently assign a value (ranging from 1 to 5, with 5 being the highest) according to his assessment of the importance of a study to the two zones. The individual values for each sub heading and zone were summed up and the studies were ranked with respect to the aggregated values. The resulting ranking is shown below:

Comments on the results

Initially, opinions were expressed that limitation to 5 studies per zone was too small.

The opinions expressed on the results include:

time did not allow thorough appraisal of the results for some studies chosen as they were very close in frequency to some of the others;

some of the studies could have also qualified for both humid and dry zones;

while the Anglophone group restricted itself to one study per zone per sub-heading, the Francophone group did not limit themselves in the same way based on the fact that the group had information on what studies are being undertaken as well as what has already been done;

the list of studies that have been done, or are in the process of being carried out, should be deleted from the list;

free discussions and choice of the relevant thematic studies without reference to the provided list may have produced different results;

studies 1,2,5,6 are all related to land use and hence should be harmonized;

studies 18 and 15 are similar and should be combined.

Conclusions en plénière

Zones humides
