Another Meeting?

66. The issue of the best time of the year to hold a subsequent meeting was reviewed. It was noted that the orange roughy fishery had become largely a winter fishery, prosecuted over the period June - August on spawning aggregations. If three months are allowed for data collection, checking and entry, then the earliest the data would be available would be around late November-December, thus an appropriate time for a subsequent meeting would be in the new year, if possible, no later than April 2002.

67. Alfonsino fisheries do not have the same degree of seasonality as that for orange roughy and it was agreed that the calendar year would be an appropriate period for analysis of this fishery. Thus it was agreed that an appropriate time for a future technical meeting to be held would be April-May. The participant from Australia reported that his country was agreeable to hosting this meeting and this offer was favourably received by the meeting.

68. Those at the Meeting were unanimous in agreeing that all countries with an interest in the effective management and conservation of the fishery resources of the study area and a commitment to the objectives of the Technical Meeting should be invited and encouraged to attend any future meetings related to fishery management in the study area.
