5. In reviewing the nature of the meeting, the ad hoc nature of the meeting was noted. It was agreed that the deliberations of the meetings act as a technical basis for future decisions concerning the management of fisheries resources of the proposed Southern Indian Ocean convention area, once the intended Commission comes into existence. Participants agreed that future effective fisheries management in the proposed commission area would require cooperation and goodwill in the provision of fisheries data, respect for the requirements of confidentiality for such information and cooperation in its analysis and reporting of the results.
