2. POTENTIAL FOR COLD WATER FISH CULTURE

Details are given in the appropriate project documents. Though several small-scale sites could be identified for trout culture, and the initial success of hatching and early rearing was well demonstrated by the CTA in the PA phase, the primary issues for the main project was the developmental relevance of cold water fish culture. This prompted a major change in orientation towards fisheries and the communities dependent on them, a better assessment of the market and economic viability of trout production, and the use of trout hatcheries and production facilities in a support role, as much as that of conventional aquaculture production.
