Beche-de-mer trade in Hong Kong and Singapore is dominated by a few trading houses. Most of wholesalers/importers normally distribute it to retailers rather than retailing the product themselves. Although there are numbers of small traders who import direct, wholesaling and retailing on their own account in the main dried fish sales areas of Hong Kong and Singapore, but resorting and grading process to add value to the product for re-export and distribution to third countries is done by the larger importers.
