The existing weaning section remains unchanged except for the new electronic control of the heating system, replacing the pneumatic system.
A new weaning unit is at present under construction in a covered area along the Eastward side of the hatchery. When completed it will host 36 5-m3 fiberglass rectangular tanks. Presently 15 tanks have already been supplied. Filtered, un-heated seawater will be provided by two of the existing submersible pumps and two new sand filters, not yet supplied.
By the time the consultant left, no weaning was started due to the young age of larvae. Last year protocols will remain in use, even if some adaptation could however be necessary since the artificial feed used the previous season (Lansy produced by INVE, Belgium) was replaced by the cheaper Larvit, manufactured by EWOS, Spain.
The weaning section, presently working as a larval unit, is staffed by its head and two workers (Annex 22). A third worker from the life food section will joint them at the beginning of March.
