7. NIGHTWATCHMEN

Marine fish reproduction represents a quite recent zootechnical activity that requires a greater dedication than other similar jobs. The hatchery has also to be staffed 24 hours a day: some mechanical failures can easily wreck the results of an entire season in a very short time.

The control of the hatchery outside the normal working hours is assured by two nightwatchmen who alternates every two nights. To avoid easy misunderstandings, a service order listing their duties have been prepared (Annex 21).

Particular attention is put on the oxygen levels of those tanks in which rotifers and artemia nauplii are being enriched.
