The first item of Commission I will be the Adoption of the Report. The adoption of what we have done in Commission I, the adoption of our work.

I would like firstly to give the floor to Mr Medi from Cameroon to present the Report of the Drafting Committee. Mr Medi you have the floor.

Le Comité de rédaction qui était composé des pays ci-après: Brésil, Thaïlande, Canada, Cameroun, Uruguay, Chine, France, Japon, Tunisie, Nouvelle Zélande, Italie, Libye et Soudan, a tenu deux réunions et a examiné les trois rapports qui vous sont présentés pour adoption ce matin: (C 2003/I/REP/1; C 2003/I/REP/2; C 2003/I/REP/3 et Sup.1).

Avant de passer à l'adoption, je voudrais dire un mot sur l'esprit qui a animé nos travaux. Nous pensons que toute l'équipe a été constructive, nous avons pu bénéficier de l'expérience de tous les pays qui étaient représentés au Comité de rédaction et à cet effet, je tiens à remercier personnellement tous les participants.

Nous suggérons que les trois rapports qui sont devant vous soient adoptés en bloc avec une petite modification en ce qui concerne le REP/3, paragraphe 14. Le paragraphe 14 a un élément technique qui n'a pas été corrigé par le Secrétariat; je demande donc de le corriger. C'est une simple erreur technique qui consiste à remplacer les mots "accords internationaux" par "instruments internationaux" et en anglais "agreements" par "instruments". C'est la seule modification que nous aimerions apporter au rapport; le reste peut être adopté tel qu'il est présenté.

Thank you very much for that report. I understand that there is a proposal to adopt the report en bloc. Could we go along with this proposal? I see Sweden and Italy. Sweden you have the floor.

We just had a small comment on Part I, Item 6, and Paragraph 5 on the advice on further improving the reporting. I think it was the case that many members actually provided advice on further improving reporting in the future. As it was the EU and the acceding countries to the Union and several others that also made the same comment further down in that paragraph, I would like to say that "Many members suggested that FAO concentrate more on developing such indicators and collecting relevant data in order to produce more analytical reports in the future".

I have no objection because our Swedish colleague has already made the same intervention. I withdraw my request of intervention.

Thank you very much. There being no further remarks, we can proceed to Paragraph 5 of Report I. In the second line of the English version, in the penultimate sentence "Many members suggested that FAO concentrate more…". Can we go along with this?

Just before leaving I would like to make two announcements. The next meeting of the Working Group on Split Assessment will take place at 15.30 hours today in the Mexico Room, on the 2^nd floor, building. D, Room 211. I must also inform you that the next meeting of the African Group will take place here in the Green Room at 12.00 hours.

Thank you very much for your cooperation. We will now proceed with presenting our Report in Plenary. I would like to thank all the participants of the meeting, the Secretariat, the interpreters, and all the Members of the Drafting Committee, who I know have done quite a hard, but good job.
