Provenance collections of Pinus caribaea and Pinus oocarpa were made in 1976–77 by the Commonwealth Forestry Institute, Oxford, for the establishment of conservation stands ex situ. Special attention was paid to the evidently endangered provenances at the southern edge of the natural ranges of both species.
Financial support for these collections was received from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). The provenances collected are listed below.
