INTERNATIONAL PROVENANCE TRIAL OF PINUS KESIYA

Distribution of Pinus kesiya seed collected for international provenance and progeny testing coordinated by the DANIDA Forest Seed Centre, Humlebaek (Denmark) and Oxford Forestry Institute (UK), is planned to start by the end of 1988.
The decision to organize this seed collection was taken at a meeting held during the 1984 IUFRO Conference on breeding tropical species held in Mutare, Zimbabwe, 1984. A total of 35 natural provenances (17 with individual tree collections) and 7 landrace provenances (4 with individual tree collections) have been collected for inclusion in the trials.
Seed will be made available for three types of trials: (i) provenance trials; (ii) progeny/provenance trials; and (iii) conservation cum seed stands.
