Subjects KACST supports research in numerous areas, including such arid-lands related topics as agriculture, nutrition. solar energy, remote sensing, and natural resources management; specific projects include solar thermal cooking devices and solar thermal dryers for date ripening and drying, experimental stations for freshwater fish culture (tilapia, carp, catfish, prawns), use of fish culture water as fertilizer for agricultural crops, a solar-operated experimental station for pumping and desalinating groundwater, and study of salinityresistant plants and their use as camel and cattle fodder
