Worksheet 29. Diagnosis of a Problem: The Fruits and the Roots

For a planning issue in front of you, ask each team member to fill in the details for a tree diagram of fruits and roots (see Box 21 in the text). When each person is finished, compare and discuss your different views of symptoms (the fruits) and causes (the roots). Examples of practice problems include: (1) the fruits and roots of inappropriate forest harvesting practices; (2) the fruits and roots of poor public relations; (3) the fruits and roots of deficient coordination between the central office and regional offices; and so on.
