Project objectives:

1. Selection of late flowering and early maturing varieties of almond.
2. Introduction and selection of self-fruitful cultivars of almond.
3. Selection for high yield and better quality nuts.
4. Selection of varieties resistant to insect pests and diseases.

Project summary:

The improvement work on almond was started in 1976 at Nausi, district Solan (H.P.) where about 60 varieties and seedlings selections were to evaluate under mid hill conditions of Himackal Pradesh. Similarly 60 varieties and seedlings selections were introduce at Regional Horticultura Research Station, Sharbo, district Kinnaur (H.P.) to evaluate them under the temperate conditions of Himachal Pradesh. Some of the seedlings and selections like Sharbo selections, Spillo selection were found promising.
