A. Thanks to Italian government

Resolution No. 90
Thanks to Italian Government for FAO Building and Call on Member Governments for Donation of Furnishings and Specimens of National Rural Crafts

The Conference

Fully appreciating the efforts made by the Italian Authorities to provide FAO and the Conference with all desirable accommodation at its Headquarters,

Desires to convey to the Italian Government its deepest gratitude for having erected in record time a building which is not only spacious and modern, but is installed with excellent equipment, and

Noting that the permanent FAO Headquarters building, including the main Conference rooms is fully worthy of the importance and high objectives of the Organization, but that parts of it still remain to be adequately furnished and decorated,

Invites all Member Governments to consider the possibility of donating, after consultation with the Director-General, furnishing or other suitable samples of their native, and preferably rural, crafts, thus contributing to make this building the real home of FAO, and a living testimony to the varied traditions of fine art and craftsmanship of its Member Nations.

B. Sympathy to Italy in flood disaster

396. In conformity with a suggestion put forward by the delegate of Switzerland, a collection was made among the delegations to help the victims of the floods in a practical way.

C. Portraits

397. The Conference was informed of a recommendation of the Council that portraits be made of the two Directors-General and the retiring Chairman of the Council, who have held office in FAO since its inception.

398. The Conference agreed with the views of the Council that these portraits would bear testimony in the future to the men who steered the course of this Organization. It agreed further that the Chairman of the Executive Committee, which Committee was the governing body of FAO before the creation of the Council, should be included in the list of those whose portraits should be painted and hung in a suitable place in the FAO Headquarters.

399. It was understood that the expenditure involved was not likely to exceed $ 2,500 and it was not anticipated that there would be much difficulty in finding the necessary funds within the Budget for 1952.

Resolution No. 92
