FUTURE COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS

The researchers from the University of Bío-Bío and the Center for Forest Products Marketing and Management plan to continue to work in this area as funding allows. The Director of International Programmes, University of Bío-Bío, will visit Virginia Tech during fall semester of 2000 to discuss these findings and how the University of Bío-Bío should proceed with their graduate programme. There is a faculty member at this University who is interested in pursuing a PhD in forest products marketing if she can find adequate financial support and receive a leave of absence to pursue such efforts.

A member of the Virginia Tech Wood Science and Forest Products faculty has indicated that he is willing to assist in the development and delivery of continuing education courses or undergraduate/graduate education in forest products marketing in Chile. He is pursuing the possibility of a sabbatical working with the faculty of the University of Bío-Bío.

The University of Bío-Bío and the College of Natural Resources, Virginia Tech, are working to further a student/faculty exchange programme set forth in the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the two universities (Appendix 4). In addition, a Memorandum of Understanding between Virginia Tech and the Universidad Austral de Chile, that specifically includes forest products marketing, is being developed.
