The 2003 domestic cereal availability is estimated at 8.98 million tonnes against total utilization requirements of about 9.73 million tonnes. Total cereal import requirement is thus estimated at 745 000 tonnes. With commercial imports anticipated at 145 000 tonnes, food aid needs amount to 600 000 tonnes, mostly wheat. As of end June food aid pledges stood at 525 000 tonnes of which 412 000 tonnes had been delivered.
