Aggregate 2002 cereal production, mostly rice, is estimated at about 1.04 million tonnes, which is average. Cereal import requirements for marketing year 2002/03 are estimated at 370 000 tonnes, mostly rice (250 000 tonnes) and wheat (115 000 tonnes). Commercial imports are projected at 330 000 tonnes, leaving a food aid requirement of 40 000 tonnes.
