FAO Regional Office for Africa

Our Offices

In 1958, the Twenty-Ninth Session of the FAO Council agreed to set up the Regional Office for Africa in Accra, Ghana.

In October-November 1959, the Tenth Session of the Conference approved an agreement between FAO and the Government of Ghana, delineating the responsibilities of the two parties.

In carrying out its mandate, the FAO Regional Office for Africa:

Maintains policy and technical dialogue with and among FAO Member Countries, involving national and regional institutions;

Promotes technical cooperation among the countries of the Region using a multidisciplinary approach;

Reports on the major developments and trends in countries of the Region, based on Regional and Sub-regional objectives for food and agriculture;

Follows up on the World Food Summit and issues related to Food Security in the Region;

Organizes the FAO Regional Conference for Africa (ARC), every two years.

FAO Subregional Office for Central Africa

Created on 11 May 2006, under the agreement signed between the Government of Gabon and FAO, the SFC Office was officially opened in July 2007.

FAO Subregional Office for Eastern Africa

The FAO Subregional Office for Eastern Africa is a technical hub that supports 8 countries in Eastern Africa and has a core team of professionals with multi-disciplinary expertise.

FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa

The FAO Subregional Office for Southern Africa (SFS) is a technical hub established in 2006 and is hosted in Harare, Zimbabwe.

FAO Subregional Office for West Africa

The West Africa Team is primarily responsible for the overall identification, planning and implementation of FAO's priority activities in West Africa.
