Oman Train the Trainers Course: Locust Survey

The survey portion of the course was divided into three one day sessions: survey basics, tools and field techniques. Survey basics consisted of why, when, who, where, when and how to make surveys, and reporting. Survey tools such as map, compass, GPS and forms were demonstrated and participants practiced using each tool. On the last day, the groups made surveys in a traditional Desert Locust breeding area where several mock bands had been distributed. This gave participants a chance to practice the field techniques which they had learned during the previous days.
