Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University (TSU)

In 1989 Tbilisi State University was renamed after its founder, Ivane Javakhishvili. Today Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is one of the first and most respected scientific-research institutions of Georgia and carries out about 200 local and international scientific grant programs annually. Tbilisi State University, or TSU, is one of the largest higher educational institutions, with approximately 22,000 students studying in seven faculties.

Paata Gugushvili Institute of Economics of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University is the successor of the Institute of Economics of Georgian Academy of Sciences founded in 1944 during the World War II by the initiative and under the direct guidance of Academician Paata Gugushvili.

Mikheil Nodia Institute of Geophysics was headed by Professor M. Nodia. On December 1, 1950, the Institute of Physics and Geophysics was divided into two institutes – Physics and Geophysics.
