AGRIS Launches in Kenya: Empowering Agricultural Research and Collaboration

AGRIS

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), through its International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS) and the FAO Representation in Kenya, introduced the AGRIS database and AGRIS Network to local food and agriculture research institutions. The event marked a significant step forward in enhancing agricultural knowledge dissemination and promoting collaboration.

Mr. Hamisi Williams, Assistant FAO Representative in Kenya, delivered the opening remarks with enthusiasm for the collaboration. He emphasized AGRIS's critical role as a platform for agricultural research and knowledge exchange, highlighting FAO's commitment to empowering stakeholders and fostering collaboration in Africa.

Participants received a comprehensive overview of AGRIS from Marcia Mabhula, Program Officer at ITOCA, covering its history, structure, and the roles of data providers and users. The presentation underscored AGRIS's current status in Kenya and emphasized the need for increased collaboration to boost the global visibility of Kenyan scientific knowledge.

The webinar provided an excellent opportunity for participants to engage with the AGRIS ecosystem, explore the platform's capabilities, and identify collaboration opportunities. It brought together stakeholders from academia, research institutions, and government agencies, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.

As FAO continues its mission to empower stakeholders in agricultural research and advocate for sustainable development, the AGRIS webinar series plays a pivotal role in fostering knowledge exchange and driving positive change in food and agricultural research visibility and accessibility. The success of the AGRIS webinar in Kenya underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing agricultural research and innovation.
