Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) extends a warm welcome to the Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission from Botswana as a new member of the International System for Agricultural Science and Technology (AGRIS).

Established in 1994 by Angola, Botswana, and Namibia, the Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission was created to jointly manage the water resources of the Cubango-Okavango River. Its formation was in response to water challenges and aims to promote sustainable use and protect biodiversity.

By joining AGRIS, the Permanent Okavango River Basin Water Commission becomes one of the first two AGRIS data providers from Botswana to join AGRIS. Its records cover themes such as water management, environmental conservation, and biodiversity protection, among others.

Through its participation in AGRIS, the Commission demonstrates its dedication to advancing agricultural science and technology. This collaboration enriches the African research community and enhances global accessibility to valuable research.
