The impact of abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear, also known as ghost gear, is gaining more attention as fishing activities have expanded offshore and to deep sea marine environments. Abandoned, lost or discarded fishing gear not only threatens aquatic life and fragile marine ecosystems, it also contributes to marine plastic litter, creates hazards at sea and threat fisheries and fishers' livelihoods.
